Endocrinologist & Specialist Physician (Thyroid Guidelines)

Dr Tanya Kinvig is an Endocrinologist and Specialist Physician at Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.  Dr Kinvig has an interest in managing diabetes particularly in pregnancy, thyroid and pituitary disease together with general endocrinology and the bulk of her practice relates to diabetes and thyroid management.

Dr Kinvig gives frequent CME talks in diabetes management and thyroid disease for which she has received honoraria from a number of drug companies.  She is American Diabetes Association certified to deliver the “Standing together against diabetes: an ADA initiative to optimize diabetes management”.  She is a member of SEMDSA and NOFSA and sits on the Novo Nordisk Advisory Board for Degludec and the Novartis Advisory Board for Vildagliptin.

A mother of two children who were both breastfed for a year!


Research Psychologist

Linda Lewis is a Research Psychologist working in private practice exclusively in the field of perinatal wellness (before, during and after childbirth), in particular postnatal distress. She has twenty years’ experience in running support groups for mothers as well as seeing them individually in her private practice. She has travelled throughout the country educating healthcare professionals in the field. She is on the board of the Postnatal Depression Support Association and is the author of “When Your Blessings Don’t Count: A Guide to Recognising and Overcoming Postnatal Distress“.


General Practitioner (GP)

MBChB University of Cape Town (1974)

Dr Murray Solomon served his Housemanship at Conradie Hospital, Pinelands, followed by 6 months in Anaesthetics at Tygerberg Hospital.   Dr Solomon worked in rural Kwazula Natal at Charles Johnson Memorial Hospital for 18 months.

He returned to Cape Town and starting a general practise initially in Edgemead.

Returned to Kwazulu Natal for 6 years before settling back to Cape Town in 1993.

Dr Solomon is currently a well-respected healthcare practitioner specialising as a solo GP in the Constantia area of Cape Town.  

Paediatric Dietetic Specialist

Deidre Lindeque obtained her BSc in Human Biosciences and BSc (Med) Honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Cape Town.   Additional studies have included a Diploma in Functional Medicine (IFM, USA), Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes (cum laude) from the University of South Wales (UK).  Deidre is a South African Certified Lactation Consultant (SACLC).

She worked at TARA Psychiatric Hospital (Eating Disorders Unit) and Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital (Paediatrics), before moving into the private sector.

Deidre works in the private sector as part of the Nutripaeds Dietetics Practice group specialising in paediatric dietetics.  She is based primarily at Constantiaberg Hospital.  She is also a member of the WC ADSA Committee and DESSA (Diabetes Educators Society of South Africa).

As a mom of a toddler and 3 months old baby with a personal history of hormone-related breastfeeding challenges, she is passionate about supporting and educating moms and health care professionals – ensuring that moms and babies receive the optimal nutrition from birth to set a solid foundation for future health.

Paediatrician and Allergologist

MBChB (UCT, summa cum laude); FRCPCH (London); MSc (Clin Pharm) (Univ Surrey, with distinction); Diploma Paed Nutrition (London); Diploma in Allergy (Southampton); Cert Allergology (SA) and a PhD (Paediatrics).

Claudia Gray is a paediatrician with subspecialist accreditation in allergology.  She undertook her medical degree at the University of Cape Town and specialised in paediatrics, paediatric allergy and paediatric clinical pharmacology in London. She returned from the United Kingdom 6 years ago to settle in Cape Town with her family.

Claudia has a private paediatric and allergology clinic at the UCT Lung Institute in Cape Town.  She is also a part time consultant at the Allergy and Asthma clinic at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town.  Her research interests are in allergy pharmacology, and in food allergies in eczema patients, on which she has recently completed her PhD.

Claudia has numerous publications in the fields of allergy and pharmacology, and presents regularly at local as well as international conferences.  She is on the editorial team of the journal “Current Allergy and Clinical Immunology.” Claudia is a regular examiner at the postgraduate Diploma in Allergy exams, and a member of the executive committee of the Allergy Society of South Africa.

Lactation Specialist

Jean Ridler was among the first group in South Africa to be accredited as International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) – this was in 1990.   She is also a Trainer of Trainers in Lactation Management for WHO and UNICEF.

Jean has a private practice offering home consultations and lactation education for health professionals.

Qualified Midwife & Clinic Sister

Heather is a qualified nurse & midwife (BSc Nursing from UCT)) and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Heather is a mother of two and has been the clinic sister at Thula Baby Centre, in Mouille Point, Cape Town for 10 years. She teaches antenatal classes in Rondebosch and Mouille Point, preparing couples for birth and supporting them afterwards to become confident parents.

Her experience ranges from hundreds of births at Gugulethu and Retreat MOUs in Cape Town to nursing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.

She is married to Pete, a computer analyst at Allan Gray, and her children are 13 and 15 years old.

She recently completed writing Pregnancy Sense with Meg Faure and Jacky Searle.

Childbirth Educator

Emma Numanoglu, the co-ordinator of Me-a-Mama antenatal classes and founder of breastfeedingmatters, is a Registered Nurse with distinctions in Midwifery, Psychiatry and Community.  She has also completed a BA degree in Communication Science and Psychology, as well as a BSc (Honours) degree in Psychology and post-graduate studies at Wits to become a South African certified Lactation Consultant and is also an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Emma has previously worked as a midwife, and Unit Manager for the Oncology/Surgical Unit at the Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

Midwifery and Breastfeeding are her passion and she endeavours to ensure that every parent-to-be is aware of all their options and has the best childbirth experience.
